Call to discuss your objectives with us.
We’ll walk you through the process, answer any questions you have, and schedule a time to meet for your first lesson. We like to get started with a minimum of bureaucracy, but there are a few things you will need on the way to earning your certificate:
Time. A private license requires a minimum of 40 hours of flight time, with most student pilots logging closer to 60-80 hours before their final check ride. Most FlyRight students spend extra time in preparation for an FAA written test . The length of your training depends in part on whether you want to study full- or part-time. Intensive full-time programs can be completed in as few as two weeks, while a part-time student typically takes between four and six months of flying several times a week.
Money. You do not need to pay for all of your flight training up front. With FlyRight, you may pay as you go, or we offer discounts if you pay for a block of lessons in advance. See the prices listed on our Main page, then call to ask about our specials.
Headset. Prices range from the low $90’s up several hundred dollars or more depending on model and make. We have loaner headsets available, but it’s a good idea to get your own headset as soon as you start your training.
Language. All applicants for the private license must be able to read, speak, and understand English, the international language standard of aviation. FlyRight can conduct your training in English or Spanish, but your radio calls must be made in English (internationally) so fluency in English will be required before you take your practical test and qualify for your pilot certificate.
Before you solo, you will need the following:
Medical examination. You must pass a basic medical exam, certifying that you meet the medical standards for safely operating an aircraft.
Age. You must be at least 16 years old to fly solo with a student pilot certificate, and 17 years old to get a pilot's license. There is no upper age limit, provided that you are healthy enough to pass the basic medical exam discussed above.
Before you apply for your private pilot check ride you will need the following:
Pass the FAA Written Test. The airman knowledge test examines you on the concepts and information you learned in your ground school training. The exam is given at designated computer testing sites for a fee of $80. You will be asked to present proof that your instructor has approved your ground school training.
